What this test is
The test measures CA 125 in blood, a protein that can rise in ovarian cancer and also in non-cancerous conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic infection and pregnancy.

CA 125 is used to monitor ovarian cancer treatment and to help assess certain pelvic conditions, particularly when an ovarian mass is seen on ultrasound.

Not always. Non-cancerous conditions also raise it, so doctors interpret it with ultrasound, symptoms and history.
Should CA 125 be used to screen everyone?
Not on its own for symptom-free women, because false positives can cause unnecessary anxiety. Discuss your individual situation with a doctor.
